I would like to introduce my 2 new additions to my amphibian family Garfield & Odie  which I acquired from evut today. Firstly please let me apologise for their names but my son Zak 4 and daughter Ella 2 named them :)

So at the moment they are tiny at 1.75 inches so are being kept in a small container to keep them safe until they are fully aquatic.

Apologies for the quality of the pictures but my darling daughter dropped and broke my camera so cannot use any flash setting like digital macro or for that matter even use my view finder

Gorgeous! I never get tired of this species, they are just too good xD
Eva has certainly done a great job raising these guys, they are plump and have a nice red color.
By the way, you´ll be amazed at how fast they´ll grow once they become fully aquatic!

Already in love with them :D Had paddletails before

She has, infact all of her amphibians were amazing, great set ups and all looked incredibly happy and healthy, my son was also fascinated with her tortoises but then got quickly distracted by the wii  well what can you say he is 4!!

Looking forward to it, measured them tonight and will be keeping tabs on my little guys or girls and hoping I can carry on from where Eva left off (oh blimey wish me luck hard act to follow)!

lovely youngsters! They have so much orange on their backs - will that stay or will they eventually look all brown on top?

hoping they stay but who knows only time will tell and dont worry will be updating with piccies and eventually tank set up when they are aquatic :D

Thanks for all the compliments. Hope these babies keep growing well and learn to swim soon

About the colouration - I have photos of the parents here, that can give you an idea.

The females keep a bit of the stripes, the males lose them completely. The black spots on bellies will become bigger on the females and eventually they will be mainly black with just little light specks and a stripe on the middle.
This was always confusing me about my newts - people were saying they are sasayame but the bellies looked so different. Then when they were about 1.5 years old, I noticed the belly patterns on the females started to change in that direction.

They're beautiful! The names are cute too. :D
