So my marbled newts that I got from Micheal Shrom in June or July(I forgot lol,but it was one of those months) are getting bigger. They are now finally eating in front of me and when I drop wax worms they pound on them and gobble them up.They adapted to there setup(terrestrial) and are now not as shy as they use to be.I'll keep updateing every time something new happens with them

Marbled newt update 9/20/11

Another marbled newt update!Last time I think I talked about how they grew and how they were pounding on waxworms.Today I took out myruler and measured them at 3 inches! When I got them they were 2 inches.I got them in July.So they grew a inch in 3 months.

Red, could I ask you to please post all of your updates into a single thread? That way people can follow the progress over time.

Oh ok yeahh that makes more sence.

Well take good care of those things. I had a colony of 12 when they were laying and they all died in the last month and now after producing over 100 morphs this year I have only two adults left. I think they laid themselves to death.

Be careful with the waxworms. They are very fattening and should only be fed occasionally. They aren't the easiest to digest either - one of my salamanders nearly died from an impaction after eating waxworms.

Dam really, that's crazy that they can do that.

Yeah I know but I'am going to get whiteworms from otterwoman and dwarf isopods from Micheal. So I could mix up there diet.I don't feed them crickets since they are harder for them to catch and it's a pain to keep sticking the bag of crickets in the fridge every time I have to feed them(I do this because it slows the crickets down but it gets annoying lol)

Marbled newt update 10/29/11: So as I was feeding my newts I noticed that one of them is a dark coloration and its more black then green in some spots. Also it's stomach has light black specks.I'am not sure if this is normal coloration or what but it seems to be doing fine.

It's normal for them to vary in color between an almost 'neon' green to a darker green.

Its a good thing you said that, I bought some the other day and have been feeding them to my african clawed frogs so I should start giving them as treats only.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
