Ok so I just got a chiller for my axi tank (which is brilliant) only thing is its very noisy and considering the tank is in my bedroom it might cause me to lose sleep.

Anyone have expereince with these things, I was thinking that sitting it on Styrofoam might make it run more quietly, as it seemed to be the vibrations which cause the most noise.

Any thoughts?

I have a book leaning against the chiller(the front part, be careful not the cover the intake tho). It stops the vibrations.

hey boo!

you will find the chiller noisy for the first day or two while it is getting the temp down. After then it is on a thurmostat, so only when the water gets over the desired temp does the chiller kicks in. At night it will not kick in as much beause it is cooler, and depending on the size of your tank it could take a while for it to heat to the right temp for the chiller to start working.

mine got more quiet the second day and i dont really notice it any more.

Ooooh good idea, I shall try that for sure

@Yellow - ah yeh I don't notice the noise too much but my sister complains

I got a Aqua One chiller a few weeks back and I was surprised how quiet it is, when it kicks in I can't hear it over the buzz of the airpump (but it is a noisy pump).

It's also in my room, but you can wake the dead before you can wake me so it's not a problem.

the chiller I got puts out a decent amount of heat though, so I have to keep my window open during the day, and probably all the time when the perth summer hits.

also, I haven't seen you posting for some time boo.

:D Yay for chillers!!! I'm so glad I finally decided to get mine, its not so noisy really, I only noticed it the first day. Lol yeh I'm like that too, I easily sleep through it.

Hmmm I haven't noticed the heat mine puts out but we're having a little big of a cold snap here (for spring anyways) so its not working very hard at the moment. It only switches one for about 10 mins every hour and a half or so.

Hahaha yeh I haven't been around much lately. Too much uni work :(
