I was thinking a lot about salamander live cycle and I got to the point here I asked my self if was possible to keep from juvies till adults newts like Triturus and Neurergus witch have both land and aquatic behavior just in mainland? 100% terrestrial? Could be done something like this or they would have complications?
thanks,

of course this can be done. Most newt juveniles in the wild, almost never come in water, until they are mature. Of some species, juveniles can be hold aquatic, after metamorphosis, because this is easier feeding them

Yes Joost. I know it. My doubt is that after being mature can be keep more and more years (keeping 5, 6 ,7 ,8 (...) years old virgin newts...) So even many years after mature point being kept fully terrestrial as in the first juvie years they had been kept.
chip.

oke, now I know what you mean. (may-be it's me. My English could have some improvement:lol:).
But why would you keep your newts 100% terrestrial? I don't think that they will have some complications. A lot of species of (for example) Lissotriton vulgaris, live most time of the year on land, exept in breeding season of course. But in these days, a lot of habitats are being destroid, in this case they stay on land too (due lack of ponds). But what happens if they stay year in-year out on land, for many years.....? Probably nothing.

Excluding extinction i think the same too. But I don't know, maybe they have a great need in ion exchange to clean the organism, or something like that that just can be done in aquatic system.
It was just thinking i shall not do it.
But i wanted to know what others think about it too. I guess nothing serious will happen but...
thanks
