Hey guys. I raised two spotted salamanders up this year from small larvae and they've been doing great up until now, and morphed a couple months ago. I checked on them this morning and saw that one of them looked like it had tried to shed some skin but it was stuck on one of its back legs. I figured I probably wasn't keeping the humidity high enough so I misted it up real good. I took the one with the stuck skin and let it soak in a dish of water for some time. The skin became moist enough to where it should pull of easily (done this once before) but when I removed it, his foot came off with it. Looking more closely the leg appears to be dead and is quite swollen. What should I do now? He's only about 3 inches. Should it spend time in the fridge? I keep my sals in the basement where it is about 58f. Should I put him on brown paper towels and just keep an eye on it? I wouldn't be so worried, but it is a real small juvenile.
