Hello, yesterday I noticed a lump on the underneath of my red-spotted newt it’s by his back legs, he is eating well and is not acting strange or ill.
Dose anyone know what it is? I’m getting a bit worried it don’t look nice.
I have took photos but they are not great

I´ve seen this before in this species, but can´t remember much about it. It could be a number of things, from some parasitosis, to a tumor, an abcess....
I would take it to a vet to get it diagnosed.
Isolate the animal if there are others in the tank, it could be contagious.

Its just him in the tank and I don’t know of a vet that will see a newt I will have to make some calls, thanks

I have been making calls all morning and I can’t find a vet that will treat a newt,
please someone must know what this is or seen it before, any advice would be great

Hi,

I'm afraid it will definitely need to see a vet for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Chances favour an abscess, but as Azhael says there are other possibilities.

There are a couple of vets listed in the west Midlands at Herp Vet Connection, or try Herp Veterinarians - England or ARAV.

Hope you can get him/her sorted out.

Bruce.

I heard somewhere that newts can fight of infections better in cooler temperatures any ideas how to cool it down quick?
Can’t see a vet till Monday.

Have not seen a vet yet but i have found one that knows about newts only he is away on holiday.
Dose anyone think the lump could be a blister?

I don´t see how it could be a blister. For starters it should have gone away a long time ago.

I’ve seen a vet about the lump and as my newt is not acting sick in anyway he just wants me to keep an eye on it and if there is any changes take him back.
Only yesterday the end of my newts tail was red today it went black and has broke off I’m going to try to get an emergency appointment with the vet for tomorrow but dose anyone know what this could be and what I can do ?

Could be fungae, it sounds kind of like what happened to my male. This species is very susceptible to fungae.

It´s the standard treatment, yes.

Thank you, I don’t have any salt now is there any think else I can do till I got some? Should I get him out of the water or just let him do what he wants? I hope he is not in pain. why do they get fungus infections? Is it my fault, I feel sick i just dont know what to do

First off, read this before you get the salt:
Caudata Culture Articles - Salt Solutions in Treating Salamanders

I don´t know why this species is so prone to developing fungal infections, but they are. Both WC and CB animals appear to be strangely susceptible.
WC animals of this species adapt badly to captivity, i don´t know of many people who haven´t had their WC Notos die after a few months (in europe, of course)
It´s not necessarily anything you´ve done. Even in what apparently are very good conditions, this sometimes happens.

I would take the animal out of the tank and place it in a small container with moist unbleached paper towels (with good ventilation).

Apparently Azhael and I are on the same wavelength today:D! As you already know I keep a few notos and have for years. I have lost a few of my own to fungus despite my best attempts. Luckily I haven't had a fungus problem in the last few years that I have been keeping this group. I have also effectively used the salt baths to treat fungus, so lets hope yours can be cured successfully as well. Best of luck.

Salt bath, do I use just enough water to cover him or should he be able to swim in it? And how much salt do I use?

I would use just enough to cover him with, keep a good eye on the length of time it is in the water.
