Hi! I have not posted in a long time, mostly because I have not had many problems in the last little bit, and I guess this isnt a problem perse I just need some help figuring this out.

So I came home last night to find sperm all over my tank, it had not been there earlier, so I did my usual water change and cleaned it all out(i just started cycling this tank)
I just want to know how long from when the sperm is laid does the female pick it up? Should I expect babies soon? I may set up my 25gallon again to put my females in a seperate tank for breeding season.

If an axie has accepted the spermatophore it can take a couple of days for her to lay them, so if there is no eggs by Thursday id assume there wont be any, im having the same problem at the moment, my two males are going mad laying spermatophores all over the tank, so im removing them every time i see one!

Thank god for a cycling tank daily water change. I am constantly checking the tank lol. So far there is no new sperm today.

Thank you. So it can be instant collection of sperm as it drops of the female wants to? There is a lot of people with lotls laying right now! You can tell its breeding season!

Chances are if you've seen spermatophores she's already picked one up. I didn't even see spermatophores, I just got 400 eggs overnight!

I agree, you'll know in a few days if you're going to get eggs....

I also agree. best thing right now would be to come up with a plan if you do get eggs. food, space, new homes or even keeping the eggs. better to be prepared for nothing rather than not being prepared.

Scary!! Omg >.< i raised 30 eggs last spring, i dont know what I would do with 400. Chances are id fond homes for the eggs

How was 30? Mine had ~640, 95 duds/slow for now, 25 I'm keeping that are promising + whatever makes it out of 95...

My males are laying spermatophores all over the place and have been for around a week but my female doesnt seem interested, instead she chooses to go and hide in the shower caddy(she normally stays on the ground), she may just be slow on the uptake but ive managed to not have eggs for a week, which is great hehe! :D

Males will deposit spermatophores whether there a female present or not. If there is a female present she may not be interested (or ready) anyway, but the chances are she will. I love the optimism of the male! I am convinced one of mine ate the spermatophores (ew!) because they disappeared and I didn't get eggs.

I had over 600 eggs in the first batch, I kept some, sold/gave some away, and froze (destroyed) the rest (I now have 16 babies at 2"/5 weeks), and with recent reports from everyone in the northern hemisphere I am convinced I'll have more before Xmas....my male is certainly frisky.

30 wasnt bad. As long as you have room for them it is fine. I would definately start a daphnia culture though for anythin over 30, feeding bbs till they are big enough for bloodworms is HARD! And expensive. I know id still need to feed bbs the first couple weeks but daphnia would be helpful lol.

Yay axie eggs! I wish i knew which male was laying the sperm though!

If you don't keep all the eggs il be interested in them :D . i gave up my daphnia culture to many babies not enough time for daphnia to reproduce, now i just import 95% hatch BBS in bulk. 1 TBS of eggs will last me about 5 days feeding about 300 babies at a time.

So far no eggs. But i will keep you in mind if ever I come in and there are eggs :)

On a side note one of my axies chomped on pumas tail. Fkekdja poor puma never gets a break. He is in a salt bath because of stupid fungus and there is not one bag of tea in the house! I wanted to add some tea to the tank for in between salt baths. This is my first time dealing with fungus. But whoever had a bite took a huge one! Ive never had an accident in the tank, i guess he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
