One of my little guys, it was about an inch long, died just the other day. This is kind of embarrassing for me to post because I feel this was my fault and should not have happened.
I have three juveniles that are still fairly small.(2 from this season/one from last) They have been in a critter keeper cage with artificial plants, a few stones, and about 1.5 inches of water. They were doing pretty well in this setup, but then I added some more plants because I was afraid of them drowning if they could not haul out. But what I ended up doing was adding too many plants. One of my little guys was swimming around near the bottom of the container, along the edge, and it looked like he just got wedged under a piece of a fake plant and drowned that way. Just wanted to post this as a warning, as this is one more way you can lose offspring. The little one that died had a very dark red belly, the first one I have raised with the desired color. :( While in its larval stage it was raised in a 10 gallon with good amount of invertebrates from a nearby pond.
