Looks like i have dirty water

I am just wondering if any one can help iv never had this problem before, i have just set up a new axolotl tank and i think the sand as made the water dirty, i did wash the sand 3 or 4 times before putting it in the tank but the water seem very dirty.
I haven't got any axolotls in the tank at the moment as i am letting it cycle for a few weeks first, i do have a filter and air stone in there working already but its been like this for a few nights since i have set up the tank, will the murky dirty looking water disaper or do i need to start all over again, oh i have put some clear water solution in the tank and think that's working a bit. Any help would be great...thanks

im not much of an expert about this, but sand is very murky when its with water, so maybe give it a couple more days for the sand to settle. maybe having a pump might stir around the sand more, keeping it murky dirty.

What kind of sand did you use?

From what I can find, that looks like the same thing a silica sand, which is what I'm using.

I would say its probable that the sand could've used some more rinsing - did you keep rinsing it until the rinse water ran clear?

Did you add the sand into water, or the water onto the sand?

If you have no animals in your tank at the moment and have a filter running, you can put either a fine sponge or some filter wool (same thing as Cushing stuffing) over the intake to collect the really fine silver sand particles, you either change it every day or put new bits in. As you are only using it to catch the fine dust it will clog quickly, but that way it should only take about two days to clear.

Hi coldnorthtoy, I did rinse the sand till it ran clear an i put the sand in first then the water hunny, it has actually cleared up now it took a few days but all looks good until i pick up a plat then it starts going murky again so i will do what you suggested lolliepop, iv got plenty of filter sponges so when i move plants, hides ect again i will put a filter sponge in to clear the particals. I am very great full for both of your help. Thank you X
