Look who's trying to show off...

One of my T. karelinii's starting to get a little crest. It's like a 12 year old trying to grow a mustache, it's so cute!

LOL on that analogy! How old/ big is he? He looks different from my karelinii in pattern and darkness of the spots. Based on how the belly color is showing on the side profile he must be very well fed

I think he's going on two years old, just getting into sexual maturity. He exhibits a swollen cloaca too, but I'm not exactly sure how to sex Triturus with cloacal patterns. He's different than all the others; they're very dark, and he's very light. He's also pretty fat, as I'd fed him about 2 minutes prior to the pic (That's when I noticed the crest).

The crested one is on the left. Judging by the 'mouth pouches' (or whatever these little fleshy flaps are called), the one on the right is a female.
