I recently (Thursday, May 19th) collected Ambystoma macrodactylum eggs. I have been having many problems with them. If anyone could be of help, I would really appreciate it.
The eggs/larvae from one of the localities have a fungal infection. I moved the larvae and eggs to new containers with dechlorinated and dechloraminated water. Aquarium salt was mixed into the water (4 grams or less than a teaspoon for every litre).
The larvae were hatching very fast and potentially earlier than they would have in the wild probably due to higher temperatures and disturbance?
Yesterday (Sunday) there was an unexpected die off of larvae. They had hatched within the last 24 hours and were placed in a new container as described above.
Other larvae that were in different containers (with the same conditions) had very low mortality rates and 100% survival rates in some cases.
I tested for ammonia levels. They are very low to nonexistent.
I tested for nitrite levels. They are also very low to nonexistent.
The pH is high (7.5-8.5) but it is the same as the pond water that I collected from the site.
Any ideas on what to do?
