Hello to all
I am new to this great forum but not new to keeping and breeding newts. I have not kept any newts for about 20 years. But I am planning to raise some soon again!
I fed them small mosquito fish, mosquito larvas, flies, small grasshoppers, moths, earth worms from the garden, small fresh water shrimp and food sticks. I am sure that I fed them other things, but that is what I can remember at the moment! I always try to feed them a variety of foods.
My newts love the food that I gave them and I never had a problem keeping them healthy!
I hope that this information was helpful to some one!
Best wishes to all!

Oh. Thats great for me thanks. I shall look into the worms and water shrimp. If you remember any more garden dig ones please post on the topic- HELP!!

Hello Phoebe
Here are a few more live foods that I remember feeding my newts! Garden snails and fresh water snails but before feeding them to my newts I remove theme from their shell, some small garden spiders, termites from dead trees and grub from the garden ( insects larva found under the soil!

I do not recommend that you do this but I new a
young man from New York City who told me that he
had a German cockroach problem in his home and fed them to his newts during the winter month with out any problems!

Good luck to you!
Alberto
