i just finished setting up a semi-aquatic tank (for a newt) and noticed that on the terrestrial part (it contains cypress mulch, some smooth stones, java moss, and driftwood all bought at a petstore and rinsed) there are a couple of really really tiny white things crawling on the driftwood. i gave it a little splash and when they hit the surface of the water they were able to jump on top of the water like tiny fleas. are these harmful to newts and if so how should i go about getting rid of them?
any info would be appreciated. thanks!
steve

It sounds like springtails. People often add them to tanks for food for real small salamanders and to do clean up duty.

thanks michael i looked up springtails on the internet and i think that's what i got.
