We bought 2 fire-belly newts today (pretty sure they're C. Orientalis) and one of them does not have any hands, just arms and nubs. I was wondering if anyone knows how long it typically takes for hands to grow back?

The time for it to grow back is probably a variable based off from water quality, nutrition, temperature and age. The older the newt, probably take longer time to grow. As long as your newt is healthy and not too old, the limbs should grow back.

He/She should be fine. Just watch them for health problems and monitor the other one as well. If the other one keeps "eating" him, consider moving the two. Watch for bacterial infection too.(Places where toes used to be are swollen and deformed)
