Tank has both front feet growing. One has 3 toes already, other side is still a stick. Is that normal?

How long to you have to wait before you can change his name to something more pirate?

2 major reasons this could happen:

1. injury - most probable cause. He got his toes or leg trapped, bitten, caught, or other wise injured. It happens, he'll recover
2. Chimaerism - very unlikely but still within the realm of possibility. He is actually 2 embryos spliced together in the egg, and his 2 halves are growing at slightly different rates. If his 2 sides are a complete match in colour and development (I remember the photo looking normal) it's probably option 1.

It's probably option 1 anyway.

Tank has been alone since birth. Not canabalism. No way I can see an injury happening in glass container. Tank the Peg might be his full name if this doesn't correct itself.

Considering you never actually saw his egg due to it being in the parent tank, it may be option #2. Unless he munched his own toes! That would be interesting.

I read that Chimeras are two eggs together inside the axie, not after being laid. I doubt it was a "twin" egg that joined, as the process would happen very early in development. As to munching on his own toes...those tiny feet are nowhere near long enough! I'll try for a pic if I can.

Ok, here are the best shots I could get of him. I'm seeing two issues - the right front limb, and the top right gill. Both are shorter than their counterparts, being at most 50% of their opposites.

The longer, left arm:

Right arm, has some digits (two I think, but overall the arm is about half the length of the left:

Bottom view, really puts this into focus - he needs to basically "stand" on his digits with the right to be "level" with the left:

Now onto the gills:

Edit: Got an even better Bottom shot:

That missing gill definately looks like injury rather than not growing. Axies seem to be able to injure themselves on nothing - I know I accidentally injured one of my babies when I moved it when cleaning his tub.

It will work itself out.

Yes, it happens at fertilisation, it's very rare, and I don't think this is the case here.

Neither do I. Not seeing any other "common" signs like bi-color/variance. Still scratching head about the foot/gill.

Finding more development issues as I stare at them...

One of the twins has a constant forward facing gill. It actually looks like two of them fused together?

This one had an eye with "light" in the middle of the right eye:

Tank the Peg got me worried. Short leg is curled...backwards-ish and rounded in...has toes but still shorter and messed up. Anyone have that before? Will it correct? Will he be a pirate with a peg leg?

I'd love to see updated pictures! Glad the leg sorted itself out. :)

Spot and Tank are the largest I have. 3.5-3.75" long at this point. The smallest has only 5 gills and is 2.25" long. Once j get my camera back from family...I can snap some decent shots.

Here they are in their tanks:

Second tank on right, top left and center - two Leucys of different color due to GFP.

Here's my 5 gilled Albino:

Leucistic with some spots still there:

Spot the Wildtype with the weird eye:

What I'm sure is my golden (but also GFP) albino, a regular (non GFP) albino and a GFP Wildtype.
