Hi! What type of lighting is appropriate for an axie tank? I plan to have some live plants and I'd like to use one of those new LCD lights on a timer. Is that ok if there are hiding spots provided for the axie?

Yep! I just got my LED lighting and my axies actually don't mind the brigthness of it since it has a daytime and nighttime setting.

i'm in the middle of building my own led lighting system and will share the details in my thread soon, axolotl habitat.
they are more inexpensive than commercially obtained ones, and mine are ultra bright cause i'm hanging the fixture well above the tank. they can be built for lower light levels as well.

Timed LCD's are perfect in my opinion. Your plants will be getting all the light they need and as long as there's plenty of dark hide away's for axies it should be absolutely fine.

Sorry to dig up a thread, im wondering how long people leave their lights on for the plants?

I tend to time mine to the hours of daylight, though i turn them on slightly later and off slightly later to reflect how the room is being used. In winter, I'll probably move to have it synced up with the shorter daylight periods, though i try and ensure there are heaps of places for the axies to go to get away from the light should they need to :)

I've found 4 hours of artificial light is usually enough but the more the better. Light timers really come in handy for this purpose.
