If some appear light and some are dark, but both are gold, are they still referred to as Gold Albino? Or, could some be Xanthic or Melanoid Albino, or....I'm a genetic dummy. Not intentionally, I just read the genetics page and I'm an excellent reader, but.....very confusing.

The question is:
What are the different types of gold and how do I tell them apart?

Mother is Gold. Beautiful light gold flecks. She practically sparkles.
Dad is White Albino. Very hansome. Both are large (to me) Mom is 12in. and Dad is longer. Been a while since I measured.
No unusual traits that I know of.

I hope someone knows the answer. I'm very exited to know what the different combinations are that can result in a gold color.

Also, one seems to be lighter, White Albino I thought. But it's eyes reflect gold. Curious.

Axanthism will cause a white albino, so it would not be a golden albino. The melanoid gene also causes a significant reduction in the yellow pigment. I don't think it's possible to have a melanoid golden albino.

There aren't 'different' types of golden albino. But all the color variations in axolotls are plastic. That is, they all have a range of different colors. Wildtypes can range from light olive to almost black. Goldens can range from pale yellow to copper.

If dad is truly albino and not leucistic, dad would have the gene a/a, with any combination of (d/d, D/d, or D/D). Mum, being gold, is a/a, D/d (or D/D). Therefore, all offspring will be a/a. That is, they will all be albino. But they may inherit a combination of D genes from their parents, leading to a mix of golden and white albinos, having the genotype combinations of (a/a, D/D, golden) or (a/a, D/d, golden) or (a/a, d/d, white).

Also, all albinos reflect gold in their eyes. It's only melanoid axolotls that do not have this gold ring. White albinos are not necessarily melanoid.

Thank you. That helps. I am very excited to see who is white and who is gold. I was thinking since dad has pink eyes that reflect pink, that I would be able to see that in the babies as well.
I suppose I'll just have to wait and see.
Thank you for your help!
