Lead strips used with plants?

Hello, I've just done a quick search of this and I'm interested to know the forums views.

I'm wondering if the 'Lead' strips that are commonly used to bunch/anchor aquatic plants would affect water quality.

I'm presuming that the strips are indeed lead (Pb) rather than a different substance?

From what I remember from a while ago with keeping tropical fish is that the lead forms a thin oxide coating in water, to render it effectively harmless.

Firstly, am I right in this assumption?

Secondly, are these okay to use with axies, and newts, etc

Thirdly, I'm curious as to why this subject hasn't really been discussed much.

I'm thinking they must be OK since they are used for plants like that.

I always removed them just in case.

They are ok. You are correct about the coating.
That said I ditch them anyway just because I'm paranoid.
