Hi everyone

I am hoping someone can help me out with a question. I was given a Hong Kong newt about 4 years ago from a friend at work that was moving to Germany. I said I would take him because there was no where for the little fella to live.

Just recently I have been looking into the laws on newts in the UK and I am begining to become concerned that I am not suppose to have it.

Can anyone please clear this up for me, I am a bit confused.

I do know that my friend had the newt for a good 5 years prior to giving him to me, so that would make him around 10 years old if not older.

I keep him well looked after and in as natural condition as I can to his native habitat.

Its just this little concern hanging over my head that is worrying me.

Thanks for any help

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
