So I bought this lava rock for my cycling tank. Is this something any of you have used before? Does it help cycling or is it a dud?

Does it give off an ammonia source? Most times you have to add in an ammonia source such as using bloodworms or fish food. Though the most effective way is to buy between two to five fish and put it in the tank, but be sure to remove the fish from the tank before putting the axie in the tank.

Or you can completely avoid any animal cruelty and be optimally effective by just adding ammonia to the tank rather than stand ins.

I got used filter medium from someone local that keeps fish and cycled with my axolotl in the tank. It was ready to go in a few days. A local guy at Petco that we have come to know pretty well has suggested lava rock as a way to drop our pH. I'm not sure if it's the same kind but it is something you may want to be careful with.
