Lava Rock

I used regular smooth rocks to build hides in my axie tank, but I used lava rocks to anchor plants, as the porous surface is excellent for roots to invade and anchor the plant. I used these rocks when I had African Dwarf Frogs, and I'm assuming they have similar skin to axies, as they are both 100% aquatic and amphibians. Is this OK? (I just read somewhere that lava rock will hurt him.)
You can see it in the front and at the back (sides) and used to prop up the hut roofs.

It is kind of hard to see much in that picture. I think maybe you could bury the lava rock so the axolotl doesn't get hurt on it. I think they only get hurt on those because their limbs/toes could get stuck. Once the roots grow in the holes I think it should be fine. Just make sure there is no sharp edges. :rolleyes:

Thanks!!! I buried what I could and replaced what I couldn't.
