I don’t find nothing in english or spanish, this is a bad translation.

For first time, larvaes of Calotriton Arnoldi in captivity.

7 larvaes of this newt was born in a center for fauna recuperation in Torreferrusa (Barcelona). The reproduction in captivity is a part of the “Pla de conservació del tritó del Montseny”( Conservation plan for Montseny brook newt) developed for Department of environtment and Barcelona University. This plan wants analyze the fenology, demography and real distribution, ensure the conservation and create new populations (for a possible catastrophe in free populations).

The breeding group was collect this spring. The group consists in 20 newts (8 males and 12 females). Few days after, the newts started the amplexus, and after started to lay eggs and the caudates still continues laying eggs. Now there are 150 eggs, 23 in advanced development fase. The temperature in the tanks is 13º C.

The eggs (3mm) are in plastic receptacles (18º C) and larvaes (6mm) are in same conditions and eating tubifex. The priority now is the study to reduce the deads.

Because of the limited populations and the reduced area of distribution (40 km2) this newt is highly in danger.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
