Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to tell an axolotl and salamander larvae apart? cause if mine are larvae I need to prepare a terrarium for them.

If you post a picture I'd be happy to try and identify your specimen. Are you thinking it might be tiger salamander larvae? If so, it can sometimes be difficult to tell them apart based solely on appearance. The best way to tell them apart is your source. Since axolotls are captive bred, they are likely to be sold small, and likely to include color variants. Tiger salamander larvae are often sold at larger size and will all be grayish/brownish.

They look a lot like golden albino axolotls to me. Salamander larvae usually have dark eyes. How many do you have in your tank? They do look a bit young to be put together just yet, so if you do have more than one I would recommend separating them just for now until they grow a bit bigger. I'll post a picture of a tiger salamander larvae so you can see the difference.

Here are two pictures. The first is of a tiger salamander larvae and the second is a golden albino.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
