I don't have any larvae or eggs yet but this question is in my head for a while and I think it's better to know this right now than forgetting it at the moment I need it...

Anyway. Sometimes I read that larvae need a 100% water change. Okay I understand that. But the question is... Where do I have to put the larvae when I'm cleaning the tank/tub/thingy they're in? How do I move them without hurting, stressing or maybe killing them?

This may sound like a silly stupid question but it's still like a big "?" to me.

Thanks

I kept each of my larvae in its own container (1 L refrigerator storage containers) and when it was time to change the water I netted the larvae out and placed it in a clean container and washed the container it had been in for the next one. It wasn't too time consuming, but then again, I was only trying to raise 18 animals.

When handling the larvae they seem to me to be fairly hardy but if you're careful that shouldn't really be an issue anyway.

My method is to pour off (pouring into a container where I can recover the larvae if I accidentally pour one out) or use a turkey baster to remove most of the water. When I'm down to just a small amount of water, I quickly pour the remaining water (together with larvae) into a fresh container of clean water. As you can tell from this description, I'm doing this when I keep the larvae in small plastic containers; it wouldn't be practical to do this with an aquarium.

When things are dirty enough to need a 100% change, I also think it's a good idea to put the larvae into a clean container. Sometimes nasty stuff sticks to the bottom of the container.

Hi

I have a few larvae in a tank and I fish them out using a spoon and put them into an ice-cream container as I clean their tank. If you had a lot, this would be very time-consuming, but spooning each one individually also allows me to check they have stomachs full of food.

Thanks
Danni
