Kiowa and Lakota

They are both beautiful but I find Lakota stunning! How did she get such unusual coloring?

Hello

Thank you very much. Lakota is special, his gills also go lush burgandy colour and he has the sweetest nature. Why I picked him is he is very protective of Kiowa. In the pet shop when I went to get my aquarium set up I saw him there and he was very gentle with the black axolotl. When we travelled back to the pet shop he was still there and he was looking after the little black one plus Kiowa from a new very aggressive golden axolotl. I was only going to buy Kiowa because I orderd her but I could'nt resist Lakota and lucky the black one was sold or I would've bought three.

Thank you again.

Well he (sorry about the "she", Lakota) is amazing. I've never seen anything like him.

I am so pleased you like him I really appreciate it. I've seen your axolotl larvae, it was so gorgeous.

They are really beautiful, love the last 2 piccy's with them checking out their reflections:lol:

Lovely axies, you may find Lakota will darken up a bit as he/she gets older. My wildtype was a lot lighter when she was a baby.

They are absolutely gorgeous Kiowa.

Thanks for the treat!

I noticed small gravel stones though that were smaller than Lakota and Kiowa's heads - these may cause problems for them later on. Have you considered sand as a substrate?

Cheers Jacq.

Hello

Thank you everyone for your fantastic comments :happy:about my axolotls and I also a thank you for Jacq for the idea sand (what is the best type of sand ?) which I will use when they grow (and also get a bigger tank). I have also removed small pebbles when I see them and thank's for notifying me about the small pebbles in the photos. I have been so busy with water quality and trying to find aquarium salt suitable for rainwater and axolotls which is impossible to find in W.A.

See you later.

And you are doing a wonderful job

The best type of sand is 'childrens play sand' - this sand is safe for axies as it is sterilized. You can buy this at Bunnings Warehouse - this is where I bought mine - cheap as chips $6.00 for 20KG bag.

You can also buy aquarium sand from most aquariums - just ensure it is for 'fresh water' aquariums.

Do not buy Marine Sand (this is designed for salt water aquariums) or use beach sand.

Whichever sand you decide on, you will need to rinse the sand thoroughly before adding to the tank.

What size tank are you getting? :D

Hello.

Thank you very much, I will go with the childrens play sand it sounds great and because the pet shop doesn't have any aquarium sand.
At this moment time I was thinking of getting a 78cm tank, is it a suitable size or should I think of a larger tank.

A 78cm tank is very suitable.

If a bigger tank is not going to break your budget, then all I can say is go for it! ;)

Hi

Thanks I am really happy about that.
