I have two Tiger sals they have been with me for about 2 months now, i had noticed the female(Ivy) getting smaller even though i was feeding them both. I would like to add at this point they were both in the same enclosure. I separated them let kermit stay in the bigger set up and gave ivy her own(I posted pics of her set up). Now she is eating and getting bigger do you think it would be fine to place her back with Kermit or are they better off separate. The enclosure they shared was a 55 gallon bin 6" of coco fiber one big hide and a water bowl.

How are you feeding them? Are you putting their food in & letting them hunt? If that is the case, it sounds like Kermit is the better or faster hunter. If you put Ivy back in with Kermit you may need to hand feed her.

My female tiger, Rex, actually comes to me to be fed. She begs which I was told is common. I hand feed her 1 or 2 crickets & then let one loose for her to "hunt". That also gives me the opportunity to give her a vitamin dusted cricket twice a week. She will only eat crickets so I am also very careful that the "hunted" cricket doesn't get away. She is a good hunter so it is rare. I've read that crickets left in the tank too long & not eaten will actually bite the salamander & cause sores.

Leave the animals hunt their own food is always a risk because there is always a better fighter than as mytimemic says.
If you give 2 or 3 earthworms to each of four in four days for example. They'll be fed well, however it is good that uses the tongs and give out their mouth.
So you do not need to separate them!

cheers

That is the problem then because I let them hunt their food; Kermit eats worms more readily and ivy follows the worm around the enclousure before eating it and that's shy he eats her food. But I've recently found that she really likes crickets so I will tong feed them together.

I recommend that you dust her crickets with vitamins. You can get the vitamin powder at any pet shop.

I dust the crickets Everytime I feed her, that stuff is very expensive though, what kind do you use?

I use ReptoCal w/Calcium & Vitamin D. it is a little spendy also. $6 for 2 oz. It seems to be going a long way though. It doesn't take much to dust the crickets. I dont' think Rex liked the smell at first so I would give her an undusted cricket first & then the dusted one. Now she doesn't care.

That's the same stuff I use.
