Hello all,

I recently recieved a BiOrb Aquarium tank:
biOrb 30 overview - Official biOrb Aquariums - Reef One. Perfect biOrb Fish Tanks for Aquarium Fish | Official biOrb Aquariums - Reef One. Perfect biOrb Fish Tanks for Aquarium Fish

Basicly it's 30L tank with built in filtration, it is huge, but it's rounded. I'd like to keep an axolotl in there but I'm worried the round tank may cause problems. Most of the water's mass is in the height... so it's deep. Also the surface area on the bottom will be smaller than that of a square tank.

This is my first post. Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Gavin.

The bio-orb does look lovely, but is not suitable for axolotl. They tend to spend more time at the bottom of the tank, they make good use of floor space.

Thanks for both of your replies. I read that a 37L tank is sufficient for 2 axolotls... There are so many different opinions on them!

I was more worried about the amount of floor space. If anyone else agrees with either comment above please post back so I can decide!

Thanks again for the replies.

Gavin

Hi Gavin,

you should consider that an adult axie can reach 30cm in lenght and I think there´s no need for discussion that these animals need adequate space in the tank and on the bottom.;)

Julia and Tina nailed it on the head. This tank is way too small on floor space therefore just a waste of money that could be spent on a tank that is better suited for the axies.

Biorbs look good but are not really ideal for keeping any aquatic life in to be honest.
You may get away with some very small fish in the 60L but really you are better off with a regular tank. Especially for axolotls, as everyone above has mentioned.

I find my axolotl move a fair bit around their tank., they make very good use of the floor space. They also have 4 hides ( caves/ pipes etc) and lots of floating plants. They need floor space more than height. I have 3 in a 3ft long tank (3ft long, 18'' wide and 18'' tall. The biggest is 30cm and the smallest 22cm. If you are aiming to get some axolotl put them in a regular shaped tank and use the bio-orb for feeder fish ( guppies/ cloud minnow) or shrimp instead.

I would totally disagree with that information, indie, and I will try and contact someone to get that information changed. I keep 2 in a 3 ft, 30 gallon tank, and they are healthy and happy (I guess).

I've sold the Biorb30 years ago, in the petshop where I worked. I think it's a total waste to buy such thing. It's hard to clean, it's plastic, so it scratches and turn 'yellow' after a while, and it doesn't work that good as it supposed to do. For that amount of money, you better could spend it on a normal full glass tank

I keep my adult 6 year old axolotl in a large rectangular tank and my new addition in a smaller tank for now thats also rectngular and i also find that they make more use of the floor rather than height of the tank , i wouldnt recommend a bowl type tank as i know my axie would spend his life circling if i used one !
