Hello everyone.

Four days ago I got a couple of 3 month old Kaiseri in the mail and since then they haven't eaten anything.
The person who sold them to me kept them terrestrial in a plastic bin 1'x1' with a small low dish for water. I'm also keeping the the same way with, soil, moss, hidding places and a deep
water dish at ground level. The temps are in the low 60' and at night in the high 50's.
I have tried giving them pinhead crickets, wax worms and I have also have put some bllack worms in their water dish, but nothing
Could it be too cold for them?? (60'), should I try putting them in a aquatic setting, with maybe 2inches of water and a climbing places??

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Today is day 4 and they still don't seem interested in their food.

Newts can take well over a week to settle in. You will get a better feeding response when the newts are aquatic in my experience.

Temps are ok, but don't I wouldn't let them get much cooler, as that will only decrease the feeding response.

Raising them aquatically is perfectly fine.

How do you know if they are eating the pinheads or not? It's often difficult to tell, especially if you put a lot of pinheads in at once. Same is true for the blackworms in the dish. I think 4 days is too soon to tell if they are eating or not.

I thought of putting them in a plastic bin with 2 inches of water and gjving them a lot of plants and rocks to hide in. Can I just put them in water when they were terrestrial before they go to my home?. (They are only 3 months old)
I counted the pinheads I put in their bin and in the morning they were all still alive.

How long can they go without food?

After playing with the temps a little (raised to 65 f ) I'm happy to say that one newt had a wax worm in his mouth this morning. Of course he wouldn't eat it in front of me, however, as soon as I stepped out of the room and came back 5 minutes later, one of the 2 newts had a juicy worm in his mouth.

I guess it was too cold.

Steve
