Hey friends!
I'm pleased as pudding with my juveniles, here. Their parents are a Leucistic & Melanoid!

They're about 3 months old now; hatched the weekend of Christmas 2015.

The Golden Albino & Melanoid had their legs "amputated" by a certain Wild Type sibling.. As you can see the GA has regrown their legs but poor lil Melanoid has not! Although they look healthy and lively.

Beautiful! What have you been feeding them on, if I may ask? They look great!

I fed them frozen brine shrimp after they out grew bbs. Now they're on garden worms until the night crawlers are available in bait shops.
And, thanks! :)
Unfortunately, I'm sad to report the lil Melanoid passed away.. Somehow launched himself out of the dish and perished out of water u_u I felt very sad and responsible for the unnecessary incident. I should have been more mindful.. The other two are still growing strong and beautiful.

So sorry to hear that your melanoid has passed away.
They can jump a lot further than expected, as I found out when my older ones were first introduced to prawns and the wild type took one off a leucistic, who jumped out of the water and landed on the top of the filter. Luckily I was there, so nudged him back into the water.

I'm really sorry to hear that your melanoid passed away, it's heartbreaking! I've got two juveniles arriving next week, I'm going to be feeding them on chopped tigerworms and bloodworms, as they get older they can have whole tigerworms/earthworms and other little treats so they always have a variety of yummy food! Yours really do look amazing!

Is there any way you could make a breathable lid to attach to the axolotl tubs? One that provides ventilation but also is there to stop any jumping out (jailbreaks, I like to call them)
Hope to see more pictures and hear updates on your two little one's :)

Sorry for your loss. The lid idea from AmberLouiseT is good. It might prevent any more jumping

@ Donna001
Ack! How wild! Haha, I've never witnessed mine jumping out of the water. I have three adults, too.
What's a tiger worm? I haven't heard of those.
Night crawlers and garden worms for me :)

I have moved them into a 20 gallon aquarium with low water. Took a couple weeks to cycle it, but it's beautiful and clear now. They're quite pleased with their new home! No need for a lid since the water is only 50%

Be sure to share some photos of your guys ^_^

I'm very impressed with the Iridiphores on my Golden. I've determined they're both male! Haven't named the gold one yet. I like choosing unique, obscure names referenced from my favourite shows, movies, video games.

The light coloured wild type with pink gills is also unusual. I named him Ginyu
(High five to anyone who knows his namesake)

My other Lotls are Ponyo, Ruto, and Nori (the only one not named from a character). They're 3x the size of these lil guys though.

These two are about 5 months old, 4 inches long by the way :) Had ourselves a fun photo shoot today.

Wow, they're beautiful!! I love the size comparison pictures, it really highlights how fast they grow in the first few months of their lives! Considering the eggs/larvae are sooo small!
Tiger worms are just a different species of earth worm, but they look "juicier" haha. Here's a link (if I'm allowed to post links ) Tiger Worms 25g to 1Kg Organic Composting Wormery Worms Compost | eBay

But yeah, the juveniles I'm getting are fed on those, chopped up. So I've bought some and I'll hope for the best!
I've gotta say, your gold axie is my absolute favourite! The way the skin shimmers.. just amazing! The other one has the cutest speckles!

I'll definitely be posting pics of my two.. I'm going to be so obsessed with them, I just know I'll love them as soon as I see them.

P.S - Dragon Ball name = AWESOME. :)

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
