My cynops orientalis is quite placid & never seems to Want to go in the water ,when he does venture in he’s like a kid learning to swim, you get the feeling he’s not too keen on it!!.
Anyhow we called him rocky because He just kinda hangs around on his rock all day .
He’s in good health & there are plenty of plants for him in the water if he fancies coming off land but not swimming! However he’s not the most “animated” of newts. I keep the tank on a bookshelf in my living room. Anyhow to make a long story even longer I did a bit of a “tidy up” around the house last night & put some more books on the shelf next to the tank. When he noticed this he ran all the way across the rock & straight up the glass to look at the book.
It was an “atlas of world history” theres a map of south east Asia on the front cover!!!
He just clung to the glass staring at it, Does anybody think this is weird ?
Its almost like he “knew”…………..

do not underestimate the power of the newts!

funny story Karl

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
