Hey everyone,
Today I took my axolotl Jonesy, aka Scuttle Bug, to the vet. Nothing was actually wrong with him but he'd always had this odd looking mouth, constantly looking like he's smiling, that I wanted checking over. So after hearing about an axolotl vet nearby, me, Jonesy, and Arbie (Arbie has a little tummy bug but will be fine *touch wood*) headed off as soon as we could.
It turns out it thankfully is nothing to worry about. Whilst growing his lower jaw didn't quite develop right, meaning it was pushed back a little causing a tissue substance to form, or bunch up, in the middle, so when he eats (or gets excited on Scuttle Bug adventures!) it moves up and down in his mouth a bit.
I'll try take a better photo at some point so you can see the bulge in his mouth more clearly. But I took that at dinner time (hence the mess) because that's when it can be more noticeable!
I just thought I'd share it with you as another solved axolotl oddity mystery!
Edit: I was actually supposed to put this in Free For All, sorry if it's in the wrong place now!
