I'm very new to all this. I was told to get aquarium sand and asked the pet shop guy accordingly. He sold me "JBL Manado" telling me it was perfect. Well I can tell you it is not. The poor axolotl just spent a few days in the fridge next to my cheese and yoghurt pooing out mounds of the stuff. That boy totally ignores the laws of physics as I swear he passed more than his body size.
In my wholly uninformed opinion, it's not the size of this particular substrate that it the issue. It's not heavy enough. The stuff is porous and was sold to me by saying it is great for the tank micro-organisms. It seems to me that the problem was when the axolotl was wrestling with his earthworm the light substrate was being flung all over the place and the poor fella was sucking down more of that than worm.
Anyways. I've dumped all the Manado stuff now and feel awful about what I've put my pet through. Utter newbie here, so am asking if any of you have come across this stuff and what you think?
