Java Moss

Does Java moss survive at low temperatures? I've recently bought some on ebay and was going to introduce it to my salamander tank. At this time of year the tank temperature ranges between 50 - 60F. Will this kill it? How hardy is it?

I agree, that temp will be fine. When you say "salamander tank" I assume you mean a water area in the tank? It does need to grow in water.

Yep there's a water area which the moss will be in. The tank houses A.maculatum who may one day use the area for breeding. (Unlikely from what I've read on this site... but hey...the moss will look nice.) Does Java moss ever grow on rocks/driftwood protruding from the water if they are permanently damp? Thanks for the advice - I'm a java novice.

The moss will grow easier on the wood, but it will grow on rocks too. In fact I have a little rock island in my cynops tank and it is completely covered with javamoss. The moss grows both in the water and on the small land area. Here's a picture, sorry I didn't bother to clean the front first

That's great. Thanks for the picture. I have a nice beach area I think I'll try that on.
