could i also do that with the ground? have like a moss carpet. that is soo cool im gunna try it.

Those who do experiment with moss walls.. make sure you post us some pics... so we can see how it went

u could do it like a carpet effect Alex "but" it will be very hard to to clean any poop etc out of it as i found when i made a carpet on my cave.
u can get stuff called riccia or glosso which would be a better ground cover "but" u need high lighting for it...

hopefully get mine started tomorrow Jojo so i'll post some pics 4 sure

mmhaa! i just got glosso this weekend from a river, it grows naturally up there and gave some to my friend who has MH for his plants, saw it pearling the next day! riccia is actually a floating plant and is extremely hard to get established on the ground but it looks great once it is!

id say try something like mircroswords etc if your looking for a carpet effect

Hey Sharn with Riccia or glosso u can use plastic crochet mats "similar to the flyscreen mesh" to make a carpet effect but it has bigger holes than flysceen then just weight it down
happy.gif

i read a very good article a while ago on how to do it but just spent ages looking for it and no luck
sad.gif

i have seen microswords planted too as a groundcover and it looks great..

have you guys seen amano's glosso carpets, he hand plants each single little tiny eeny weeny plant with tweezers! dont have to weigh it down, it sinks naturally hehe. im trying to get a carpet of brazillian microswords going but that might take a while lol.

Beautiful, great find, Rob

Lol I might have to try this too ^__^.

Sharn - Do you have a link to that? I can't seem to find any info on it :S.

amanos carpets? i saw it once ages ago but i couldnt find it when i looked for it sorry! did a google search and couldnt find any pics sorry, just people talking about how theyd tried it etc

i got lots of java moss today "cleaned the shop out of it lol" got about $60 worth for $36
happy.gif

then brought my flyscreen $20 and also brought 24 suction caps $21. damn it's a fiddley job, cut the screen to size "10 foot" and inserted the 24 suction caps and have to get another 24 caps tomorrow
so all up it will have cost me $98au "better be worth it" + i might need some more moss ?

the bonus i got was there were lots of little sprouting java fern plants mixed in with the moss
happy.gif
got about 12-15 healthy looking little plants to mount too now
errr.gif

when iv'e mounted all my caps i will take a pic and post it step by step
happy.gif

that sounds great once i save up for some money ill try it myself

here's a pic of what iv'e done so far

i stuffed up with the first effort cause of not reading the destructions properly. i got flyscreen mesh and then thought the holes probably wouldnt be big enough and the java moss would just bunch up.
so after much searching around had to use gutter mesh and join it together to get the hight i needed, not a easy task as i had to sew 10ft together "lucky i used to sell fishing nets" so used the same method for joining nets
happy.gif
but still took a long time
sad.gif
then put my 43 suction caps on
still need another 6-10 suction caps but ran 2 hardware shops out of them so waiting for more to come in. got my java moss in my old tank waiting till i get my new lighting this week and will post another pic when i put it in...

How big are the holes in the gutter mesh? I thought they had to be 8mm wide?

Cheryl

it just looked really small in the pic so i was confirming- i want to do one as well and wanted to make sure i got the right stuff. I wasnt sure if i misunderstood.
