I received a japanese firebellied newt from a friend recently, I had him give it to me because he was keeping it in his turtle tank with his turtle. Well I noticed a few injuries including bite marks in it's tail, a ripped hind leg that appears to not only be broken, but cut open as well. It seems like it may be infected and I am entirely unsure of what to do, as it's quite swollen!!! I am a fire bellied enthusiast, toads, newts, etc. and I hate seeing any animals in pain! So I'm urgently looking for a way to take care of it's leg, it's tail is healing itself but not the leg! If anyone can help me, please do!

You have two basic choices: keep it cool and clean and hope for the best. Or seek veterinary care and have the leg amputated with antibiotics as follow-up. It's also possible on your own to apply a broad-spectrum antibiotic sold for treating fish, but there is no certainty this would help.
