after all those beautiful photos posted by Nate,Tim,Juraj ecc...here are some pics of the Italian amphibians' habitats I've seen...
let's start with some habitats from Calabria..

this large through for cows was full of Notonecta glauca...on the bottom there were some Salamandra s. gigliolii larvae

this is a large permanent pond at 1130m on the sea level, in which live Triturus alpestris inexpectatus,T.carnifex and T.italicus together...
in the wood nearby there were many Hyla intermedia, Bufo viridis and Anguis fragilis

this is a small temporary pond full of Hyla intermedia tadpoles (was the end of August) and with some Triturus italicus larvae

Amazing, that the giglioli larvae survived this pond. It looks quite eutroph and with not to much oxygen in it.

Nice lake up there in the mountains.

you're right Uwe, in fact there were not many gigliolii larvae in there, but you also have to consider that it was at least 2m deep and even more, and was also a small stream which went out from the through toward the wood...

Wow, that region of Italy looks incredibly similar to the region of Oregon I used to live in. Beautiful pics, Leo.
