Question: Is this wood safe for the tank?

I've had this branch hanging around my section for months and I figured it could be an attractive addition for my axy tank, BUT I don't know what tree its come from. Is it possibly melaleuca? (Tea tree) is it safe?

Can anyone help me out? No color leeched out of it over night I've cut off a smaller piece and am boiling it.

I would love to help, but I just cant give you a good answer without knowing what kind of wood it is. I am not sure if it is melaleuca.
Was it driftwood from a river lake etc.?
