Is this sand good for axolotl?

The pet store worker said it should work but thought I'd double check.

Also is it fine if I put the tank water in a separate container so I can add the sand and then put the water back in or add new water and this won't affect the cycle? I need to do a 70% water change anyway as the tank finishes cycling and I need to clean some algae and gunk off the bottom of the tank

should be fine, just make sure to rinse before use and to regularly turn it over to release debris build up.
