Hey y’all, I’m looking to house an axolotl in my now passed betta’s old tank. It is a 10 gallon cube, the Internet has had conflicting info so I thought I’d ask everyone here, is this a big enough tank for one axolotl?

it’s a little rough looking but haven’t done maintenance on it since my betta died a while back. Would obviously deep clean before I cycled

Hi! What are the dimensions of the tank? It looks to have a rather small floor space but have a lot of vertical space? A standard 10 gallon (20 inches x 10 inches x 12 inches) typically works for young axolotls, but as they grow most recommend 20 gallons. What kind of filtration has it got? Do you plan to change the substrate? Axolotls will eat small pebbles like that and choke, sand is often recommended.

Going to completely empty the tank and get new decorations, plants, & substrate. It was originally a reef tank that I converted into a fw tank when I upgraded, so it has pretty good filtration. Three chambers surface skim/overflow aio.

you hit it right on the money mentioning floor space, that’s what I’m worried about. It is 13.8"×14.2"×13.8"

edit: if it isn’t big enough I’ll probably get a fire belly or related but ideally would love an axolotl

Sounds like a lovely tank! Unfortunately my opinion would be that it would only be sufficient as a temporary home for an axolotl😕

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
