Hello,
I'm completely new to amphibians as far as owning them myself. I've cared for the traditional American Tiger Salamanders (Easterns in particularly) and I've worked with several species of frogs/toads (whites tree frogs, red eye tree frogs, American toads, ect).
I've never heard of a 'Japanese Tiger Salamander'. And the employee I picked up this animal from was persistent about it being exactly that. Apparently it's going to be 3 feet long or something...
I hesitate to believe him mind you, I know that not all employees know exactly what animals they have or what they grow into.
It looks like a regular Tiger Salamander to me.... (I don't know exactly which subspecies, but he's black with yellow).

I will try and get a photo later... I just wanted to know if the 'japanese' tiger salamander even existed.

No, that's not a species. Japanese giant salamanders can get 3 feet long, but look nothing like tiger salamanders and are not available to hobbyists. The employee must have just been confused. I am sure it is just a regular tiger salamander.

Thank you! That's what I thought. I just wanted to be completely sure.
