I mean any outward differences excluding the eyes....
we are only talking skin deep... not genetically

the Leucistic some times get spots on their head and back...

i really wish i could just see some side by side

If you mean just to look at then the main difference is the eyes. The albinos have pink eyes, the leucistics have black eyes (mine have a blue iris). Leucistics sometimes get a scattering of melanophores on their head and back so they can look a tad dirty at times :) White albinos can still have iridophores present as well but I'm not sure if leucistics do or not. Neither of mine do :)

There are 4 types of albinos though with 3 of them being a white colour :p There's the axanthic, the white and the melanoid. The genetics page on axolotl.org goes into detail with them and is brilliant :)

i sorta wish axolotl .org had some more pictures of each specimen,,,,,side shots and head shots

Yeah would be nice but if you look through the gallery on caudata.org and axie owners' profiles I'm sure you will find plenty, especially the breeders

there are lot of pictures up unfortunately they aren't all labeled as to the specific types of albino.. i know i am being difficult....

Genetically, yes, they're different. Albino axolotls are recessive for the albino gene, a/a, where leucistics are not (A/a or A/A). Also, white albinos are recessive for the leucistic gene(which dictates whether or not the color cells migrate off the neural crest), d/d. Gold albinos are dominant D/d or D/D.

i know genetically they are,;) i was just referring to the superficial other than the eyes

oh so i know about the color cells and the neutral crest... oh yeah i was wonder at what are does the color on the neutral crest start to show... i know that only some end up with it

In leucistics, I think they really start showing their 'freckles' when they're a couple months old. They can get more/darker as they get older, but usually by the time they're 5 inches long or so, they've got their general pattern.

my new leucistic is very long but only has VERY pale maroonish freckles on his head (i've only had him a few days).. i think they'll darken and turn black as he matures more.. soooo cute!!!!
