I've heard contradicting stories saying gravel isn't okay because the Axolotls will suck it up but sand it okay. Plus I've heard sand and gravel both aren't good for Axolots and I wish someone here could tell me. If sand is acceptable I was looking at maybe a White artificial sand.

gravel is 100% a no no because in alot of cases the stones are too big to pass and can cause problems and even death. sand is fine because they can still pass it if swallowed. if you use sand though its a good idea to have feeding bowl that way not too much is eaten. sand can really only cause problems with axies under 3 inches or so. i have sand in my tank and my guys just spit it out if they eat it. if you're worried about anything harming them you can go with a bare bottom tank or i've seen some pretty cool ideas with users on here using tile.

i trained my axie to come to the surface for food, so she doesn't swallow sand (that I know of!). But sometimes she swallows too much air and floats around a bit before she gill farts. I think that's fine.

I am no expert, but from what I understand Sully is correct. Gravel is a definite no because of impaction. And for juvenile axies sand is also bad. However sand can be used for adult axies. I've heard both arguments online though. It can be conflicting when trying to research.

Some people say sand is dangerous and that bare bottom is best because it's the safest and cleanest. And I've heard that sand is best because it's apart of their natural habitat in the wild, and that bare bottom "bores" and stresses them. I've seen some heated arguments over it. :p Best to just listen to other axie owner experiences and choose which one you think is best.

I'm sorry you feel that way, why do you feel this is frustrating to research? I feel like there is pretty much a consensus on this site at least.

Sand is usually considered fine for axolotls over 3 inches as when (notice I don't say if but when because they absolutely do eat it, they inhale everything.) they ingest it, it passes without issues. Gravel is a no no (they can and do ingest it and it can cause impaction). I believe bare bottom is actually the safest as there's no chance of ingestion and most do get used to walking on it. However I think most hobbyists (myself included) like having sand for a variety of reasons.

How did somebody manage to measure boredom levels in an axolotl ?

Sand or bare bottomed, its your choice. Arguments can be made for or against either. I don't like my guys eating sand so they are are on bare bottoms, I used to keep them on sand and had zero issues, I don't think it matters tbh.
This is a link to a sand debate

No idea. That's why I put the quotation marks around the word, as it is something I heard but not something that can be easily validated.
