Recently one of my two axolotls passed away (she was 15 years old) and we got her a friend 3 years ago and the were best friends. Now the young one hasn't eaten since she passed away. Has anyone else had there's do this and what can I do to help? Thank you in advance.

The one on the right is the one that passed away three days ago

15 years old - congratulations on being such a good axolotl keeper! I aspire to match your success someday.

I haven't heard of them mourning like that. The theory is, they are asocial and don't really care if there are other axolotls around. However some, people have reported that their axolotls seem to miss a lost/removed companion or if separated by a divider, to hang around near each other on either side of the divider. I guess their axolotls didn't read the theory books. (I have not observed this sort of behavior myself.)

There is another possibility - could your axolotl be sick? I know your other was very old , but perhaps it had also gotten ill? Keep a close eye on your remaining one and see if any symptoms develop.

I had an axie that refused to eat when I separated him from the girls he was housed with. He sulked for days. Eventually I got him a friend to share his bachelor pad with and he recovered.

I know axies aren't capable of feeling emotion in the sense that we do, but I do believe that if an axie is separated from a pair or group they have been with for a long time they can be affected.

Thank you :) I give all my pets the best life I can give them. Fortunately Sybil started to eat again yesterday and seems to be fine now

Sybil started eateing again yesterday :) for some reason I couldn't help but think she missed her friend and I genuinelysay it was that even though people say it couldn't be. I'm so happy she's eating again though, now I can sleep at night without worrying.
