I was a little confused about what was wrong with my axolotl so I decided to post something here and see if anyone can figure out what was wrong and if there’s still a problem. 10ED81D2-A4AB-47C6-A80F-E6CDB1D48509.jpeg

We were feeding our axolotl, Opal, bloodworms, and when we switched to pellets and they got really stressed. Opal pooped(/threw up?) everywhere, and shed a lot. There might even been some fungus on there, because the gills were ripping off, so we tried giving them a tea bath and they have been in there for about 6 hours now. (May 28, 3:00 - 9:00 pm) We’re going to go back to bloodworms and switching the food could definitely be the problem, since they have been fed bloodworms since they were old enough to eat.

My guess is that its probably stress, or the pellets were bad for them, even though I’ve seen other axolotl owners feed theirs the exact same thing (Hikari carnivore pellets) and I appreciate feedback, even if it is just an opinion. I’m still fairly new to this.

This sounds more like a water quality issue to me, though it may very well be related to the food. What are your tank parameters (temperature, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph)?
