I'm this question has been asked a million times but I'm in a panic and would love another opinion. Just returned from a 2 week holiday to find our housesittter dint look after My axle too well. Ammonia near 2ppm and all that good jazz. Did a 60ish percent change 3 days ago. Water is milky from I'm hopin a nitryfying bacteria bloom. But the biggest issue is the lump under his tail. I think it's just because he's a boy but my mom thinks he's constipated because one of our fancy tail goldfish is gone and wants to fridge him. He's acting extremely strange. Thank you all so much!

i’m surprised your animal is even alive at this point. with 2ppm of ammonia, living with goldfish, and now ingesting one? honestly i’m not sure if he’s going to make it. i’d suggest fridging him immediately, using clean dechlorinated water (not the water from your tank) if/when he passes the goldfish, separate him from all of the other animals in his tank immediately. the only appropriate tank mate for an axolotl is another axolotl
his gills are also curled forward, which is a sign of stress- is his tail hooked in a J shape?
i don’t know if he will live, in all honesty.

No to the j tail. And he's been with the fancy since just a little guy. So over 8 months no issues. I imagine my housesitter wasn't feeding him. And I know many people that house their axols with other fish with no issues. Hell mine picked up both my snails but spit em right out. I'll get on fridging thank you! Also I'm not entirely sure he ate the gold as I can't get ahold of my friend. It may have just died and got scooped out I'm kinda in the dark. Either way the fridge is like the spa to them kinda right? As in it won't hurt him if it's not needed?

i just wouldn’t keep any fish other than feeder fish in with an axolotl, and limited numbers at that. they can nibble at gill filaments and cause oxygenation deprivation which can be deadly or at least harmful. also, fridging is dangerous, and is known to be a big stressor. however, for some cases, it is a necessary evil. i would suggest wrapping a tub in a towel filled with clean water, then placing him or her inside. put a lid on top then put them into the fridge until they expel their gut contents - which may or may not happen depending on how large to goldfish was. do you have pictures of their size comparison? also, beautiful axie

The person who got me into axols keeps his with 6 golds and a pleco. I think the plecos kinda stupid myself. The goldfish are about an inch inch n a half maybe. And brick(the axol) is just short of 9inches. I'm Goin to put hm right in a crisper with a towel on top. Thank you so much for chiming in!

The third photo isn't clear enough to say if it's a normal bump for a boy (the exact position is too difficult to see).
with 2ppm of ammonia,
2 ppm of ammonia would be very high if it's free ammonia but below the toxicity level if it's total ammonia. Nevertheless, this ammonia may mean there has been an anormal amount of food or other organic matter decaying in the tank or digested by the axolotl.

I agree with the other remarks from axolotl nerd.

okay another big problem here, he may have swallowed a rock instead of the goldfish. never ever have rocks or pebbles or anything small enough to fit into an axolotls mouth in the tank with them. plecos can kill axolotls, and goldfish can eat away at their gills. please advise them of this. the fact that it may be a rock rather than a goldfish puts his prognosis at an even more dangerous level - i doubt he will survive.

He has pulled rocks into his mouth in the past but has spit them everything. I plan to change to sand anyways for better plant rooting so maybe I'll do so while he's at the spa. Thanks so much for all your help!!

goodness. this thread is a bit of a wreck. i really hope he makes it, but i wouldn’t get my hopes up if i were you

I get where your coming from but everything was fine for the better part of a year. Then a good friend fuxks me around. Killed our 10g community tank snails and all. Just got him in the fridge and he seems almost worse. Fingers crossed will keep ya posted. Thank you thank you thank you again!!!!

Pardon me .25ppm ammonia I mistyped! Hope these help a little better. They may be shaky I'm kinda vibrating right now

okay great!! this makes me feel much better about his prognosis. also, it looks as though those could just be his reproduction organs! i would cease fridging and put him in his own bare bottom or sand tank :) (20 gallon long at least)

Don't exactly have that option 🤧🤧🤧 you don't think there is a blockage though?
if you can’t properly house your axolotl, put him up for adoption or surrender him. they require a minimum of a 20 gallon tank per axolotl- anything less than this is considered to be borderline abuse.
its possible he has a blockage, but in the video he looks to just be a male. if he remains looking stressed or refuses food, fridge him

what size tank are they currently in?

either buy him his own tank or remove all of the goldfish, rocks, and all sharp edges from his current tank. depending on where you live i’d be willing to take him

Inhabitants r brick, that last gold fish and 2 ramshorn snails. And I appreciate the advice for sure! I'll get gold out asap but will likely be changing to sand this weekend. Would it be bad to fridge him til say Saturday and get his tank in order? If I pull that rock ammonia is gonna spike bad no?

I'm sure you maybe thinking I'm the worst person to own an axol but I haven't had one single issue with him. Until his balls dropped while I was on vacation lmfao. Needless to say I'm not leaving home for a while

What I don't understand is one 10g is prime. One is a wasteland and my 30 looks like wasteland. Almost like it's cycling again. Lesson learned don't trust other people to look after your kids
