Does anyone know if aluminum foil is axolotl safe? I $-#!+ canned my "Bowser's Castle" project and started a new one

I don't think so. Aluminum doesn't react well with water long-term. That's why water is in plastic bottles and not in cans, like delicious beer.

uh...beer is 99.9% water.

Anyway, even though aluminum is very low reacting in water (note that it does not rust) it will slowly leach into the water and cause heavy metal poisoning. It's one of those metals that will *seem* safe at first, but over time more and more of the metal will dissolve into the water and into the the axolotl's system. Particularly since aluminum foil is not made to the same standard and thickness as an aluminum can.

I feel like aluminum foul would flake as well..

How about running a pipe cleaner through it?

I do drink American beer which is just like making love in a canoe...it's &%$*ing close to water!

If the aluminum was 100% inside the clay it would be shielded from the water...then it would probably be fine. That clay is solid stuff.

Do you cover the clay in anything before you put it in the tank?

You might be able to cover it an aquarium safe epoxy and then you wouldn't have to worry about it leeching.

It does rust all solid metals rust it can be seen as a whitish film . Rust is oxidation that occurs on all organic material wood, metal, etc etc.
