I am starting to prepare myself to let two of my axolotls out together but I still a little nervous because one is bigger. One is roughly 4 1/4" and the other is a little less than five inches is that too big of a difference in size? I have a 40 gal breeder tank so they have more than enough space and they are now on red wigglers twice a day so they are eating well (The little one will actually eat a full worm cut up and the bigger one is still only eating about half a worm). I also have two big pieces of driftwood in the tank for them to hide behind.

I am probably being a worry wart but I am so scared of them getting hurt ...

I'd put a tank divider in for a week or so, so that they can see each other and get used to one another before they're properly introduced. As long as they have plenty of space and hiding places there shouldn't be any problems. Good luck.

They have both been in critter keepers sunk in the tank next to each other. So they have seen each other over the past few weeks.

They should be ok. Just keep an eye on them incase they try to nip eachother.

Hi,

I a hoping I can help, I recently did the same thing, except I added 2 axolotls which had been with each other for a while, to my original Axolotl. I was really worried that they would fight and pick I each other as one that I introduced was really small compared with my others. Anyways I had to buy a really big tank in advanced to accommodate all three of them. I left the two fish tanks they were originally in next to each other for a few days. After about 2-3 days, I put all three in the big tank I had bought (3 foot long, 51cm wide, 50cm high when filled) I put all three in the tank and watches them or a while. They seemed to be fine, oce the stress of being moved left them.

Now all three live in the same tank, with plenty of room and food for each one. Good luck with introducing the two, and I hope I helped ;)

That's a lot like what I did. They were in a tank sunk in the tank so they could see and walk by each other.

I just took the plunge and let Wooper (the larger of the two) out with Helios ... and I am so nervous. It seems like wooper is pretty much scared of everything so now I am bit more worried about Helios having a go at him since he looked to flare up a bit. Nothing happened yet other thank they scared each other and Helios kind of seems to be stalking him a bit (Maybe being curious. I dont know if they get curious.). I have a 3 foot tank as well so they have so much space to themselves.

I really hope they dont try and hurt each other :(

I was extremely nervous when I first let Misha in with Godric. Godric had a past record of being a bully (when he was a hungry juvie) so I was really stressing.

I put a tank divider in for what was probably an excessive amount of time, just to be sure that everything would be ok. When Misha was around an acceptable size to add to Godric (who is a long chunky monster) I took the divider out for a few hours and let them chill together, then I separated them again. Well, apparently Misha decided that she rather liked the hunk who lived on the other side of the fence, because the next day I went to check on them and she had somehow jumped the divider!

The two were booping and cuddling and they got along perfectly well. Godric has never ever ever even taken the slightest nip at her. Ironically, since Misha was still doing a bit of growing, she actually gave Godric a hard time by nipping his tail :/ But they were fine after a while, and they stayed together until they made a bunch of babies, so I guess that's a happy ending :p

I started with one axie. Then introduced two sisters to the tank. They were fine straight away and didn't show any negative signs ! They're all about the same age

They've been together for a week now with no real problems. They had a few chase moments but they crawl all over each other now. I just have to wait for my smallest to catch so he can join them.

So I am back at the same fears once more. My littlest guy has finally reached the 4 inch mark as is outgrowing his tub. I really want to let him loose in the tank with my other two but they seem so HUGE compared to him bulk wise. They are both a bit over the 5 inch mark but that seems to make them seem so big compared to him.
They've always been able to see each other though and they have never tried to nip at him through his container and they dont show any aggression towards each other. I am just not sure if he is still too small to be with them.
I tried letting him out once but got scared when he went towards the other two and put him back in his tub.

You could just wait another few weeks and get a bigger tub for now. It could really go either way... they could be fine or get a bit nippy!

I would still go for a divider! It would at least help with getting them into the same water, and worse comes to worse you can keep the divider in there.
