I got this for $20 from a recently renovated fish store. the filter sits on the side of the tank and blows out air (usual stuff) BUT! it has a tube that comes out of the filter where it gets its air from and u can extend it and put the near a aircon vent or something, that way ur filter will pump out cold air into the tank.
but because my aircon vents r in the roof, im freezing water in a 4ltr tub, filled it about half way, then i made a small hole above the water and a small hole on the lid. then im going to lead the tube from the filter into the tub from the hole in the lid. this way the air that it pumps through the tank is cold...
I will be trying this soon, hopefilly it will work

Its a cheap version of a water chiller, but it does the same thing.
Im really hoping this will work

sarah i have a filter simlar to that. thats a good idea you have, hopefully it will work. is your filter very noisey?. mine is when the tubes on but when the tube is of its silent.

Well i havnt tryed it just yet as im house sitting, and because my 2 axies had a bit of fungi, i have been taking them around with me where ever i go.
I will go back home tomorrow to try it out and see how i go

well i tryed it without the ice, and for some reason the water was leaking through the air pipe and the water leaked out onto the power board.

I turned it off for now until i workout whats going on with it.

i dont think its leaking, i think its the condensation of the water.

I bought a small filter for $5aus, its a really small filter about 10cm by 5cm, the good thing about it is that it isnt that strong which is great for my axies and also i connected that air thing your talking about to a bottle where i brew my own CO2 gas which gets released into the water through the output of the filter and is the soul reason my plants are so beautiful

.

Heres a picture of my plant grow set up attached to my filter

. If you have live plants and what the instrunctions for my CO2 reacter post a messege here in the forum and i'll post the info from a notehr thread i posted it in (too much writing to write it again

im not keeping live plants tho in the tank.
But im hoping it will cool down the tank.

Yeh you hit onto somthing there, that might be just what i could do to cool the tank over the summers, hmmm i need to do some thinking...

i think it would work to cool the tank down. the idea with the air conditioner sounds fool proof, but im not sure about the ice because i doubt it would cool the air that fast but give it a try i might be wrong.

i wasnt talking about the ice cooling the air, i ment the tube sucking in fresh, freezng (frome ice bottles) declorinated water, adn rigging it so it cycles and doesnt effet water level, easy.

Ok i hooked it up to the tube to the tub and its dropped from 23 deg to 21 it took an hour to do it tho :|
