Last night I accidentally left the lid open on my C.orientalis enclosure. I did not discover this until this evening and was amazed to see that none of the four had crawled out.

Lucky break, Chip! But how do you know they didn't raid your fridge and watch your cable and ate your frozen pizza while you slept? Better check the freezer!

Uh. My Notos did that once. Called up all their amphibious friends. They totally trashed the place. I woke up to see my Notos and at least 30 others passed out on the couch, it was a CSI marathon. Let's just say I keep them locked up tight now.

Very lucky. We put our 3 in a jug while we were doing a water change, and found one of the boys climbing up the side of the jug like spiderman

Well for some Saturday morning useless trivia..about a year ago my wife was hell bent on wanting an octopus. I have kept marine aquaria in the past and know how much maintenence they are. As cool as octopi are I did not want to add extra water changes to an already time consuming hobby. I researched octopus care hoping to find some difficult facet of their husbandry that would change my wife's mind. Thank goodness she ultimately lost interest in the idea but one fascinating tidbit that I learned was that captive octopi have been known to escape from their tanks at night, crawl across the fish room to a neighboring tank, eat all of the fish, and then crawl back to their own tank. Thank God salamanders are not that intelligent!

That is amazing, I didn't know they were capable of that! Sounds like a scary version of our rabbit - he escaped from his old hutch a couple of times, but when he went out, he decided he didn't like being free and went back into his hutch :)
There is a cocomut crab in blackpool sea life centre called 'Buster' because on the first day they had him he 'busted' out of his tank.

I had a noto escape from a closed secure exo terra once?

I still to this day have no idea how he managed to escape out of the terrarium? No holes or any way out??

I should have named him Houdini!

ive had cynops orientalis in an open air tank for about 4 months??? i knew they can escape but they never have bothered until...... today i saw one climbing up a vine, perhaps ill have a look for the lid.
