I would be curious to learn what sort of research they are doing and on what kinds of animals. They salary would be interesting to know as well.

I know frogs are often used when testing envoronmental impact of toxins.

There's a lot of pharmaceutical research in the Delaware valley, many little start-ups. I've set up several vivaria there for everything from mice to swine.

Salary can vary widely, depending on funding and the development phase of the product. Anywhere from $40K to $80K. Newer start ups with nothing near commercialization will often offer perks (more vacation, stock options, et cetera) in lieu of a higher salary.

Most amphibian research is academic, now that they no longer use Xenopus for pregnancy testing....

MRIGUY, I would love more info on this seeing on how I live in PA as well. Can you PM me a link at all?

  • Katia Del Rio-Tsonis:
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
